High in the sky, far above the normal lanes of travel, drifts a ghost ship carrying unbelievable treasure. Matt Cruse is on the trail of that treasure, with the help of his charming society friend Kate de Vries and a mysterious gypsy girl named Nadira. With them flies Hal Slater, roguish captain of a boldly designed Skybreaker aircraft that can reach heights previously undreamed of. But between Matt and his destination stand ruthless pirates, and an even more ruthless businessman. And what Matt's crew will find when they finally do reach the Hyperion is far more valuable, far more exciting, and far more dangerous than they ever imagined.
Sixteen-year-old Matt Cruse, introduced in AIRBORN, lives, breathes, and dreams flying in sky ships. During an internship his captain discovers a ghost ship thought to contain great wealth. When the initial attempt to salvage her is unsuccessful, Matt returns to the Paris Airship Academy, but soon he sets off (with pirates on his tail) to try again. This full-cast recording is lively and suspenseful. David Kelly takes the lead as Matt, whom he plays as a somewhat young 16-year-old with an enthusiasm for adventure. He can be stricken by adolescent pangs of jealousy, but he has a cool head in moments of trouble. Other members of the cast are also strong and combine to present a good audiobook for family listening. J.E.M. (c) AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
